I recently posted a thought about whether or not you would "like" ads on social networks. I took the conversation towards the subject of paid celebrity endorsements. Would that work in social media? Would you believe it?
Now, one week after I asked the question... we are faced with that very issue.
Take a look at this article on Mashable. Oh my goodnesss (isn't that what OMG stands for?) Doesn't this just stop you and make you think? mashable.com/2011/10/26/rainn-wilson-caught-12k-tweet/
Rainn Wilson from the Office. He was paid $12K for tweeting about a burrito? And he thinks it's pretty shitty so he said so on Twitter? By mistake....
Enough said.
Endorsements made through social media better be truly felt. People reveal themselves through this medium. We get to know a lot about them. If they cross a line and try to stretch the truth to make a buck, it is very likely that someone will pick up on it. And make it public. Very public. There is no place to hide. That, I believe, is the bottom line.
It took only one week after I asked the question. What an exciting, dangerous, demanding time we are living in. Better be careful out there.................

My Mom used to tell me, "Mathew, if you can't say something nice about somebody, don't say anything at all." Perhaps the lesson here is, 'just shut your pie hole'... or the 2011 version, 'don't post every random thought on twitter or Facebook'. LOL
