I'm a marketing professional. I like to think I can see through the tricks and the faints....
But today I was sitting there watching the the Giants/Falcons game wondering what there was in the fridge for me to have for lunch. And up comes a commercial for McDonald's, specifically for their Big Mac. I walked into the other room and told my wife about the commercial and told her I needed a Big Mac. She laughed me, told me I was weak, and asked me to get her some fries.
I'm a marketing professional. I know all the tricks. I know that there was no way in the world that my Big Mac was going to look as good as the one I saw on television. And it didn't. Not nearly.
But I had to have it. A commercial caught me at the very moment that I was looking for an answer.
I'm not proud of this. I should have been able to see through the technique and the strategy. I should have be immune to the tactic. I'm a marketing professional. (Have I mentioned that?)
But I was hungry. The photography was great. And there was a McDonald's within a five minute drive. I gave in. It won.
Don't let anyone ever tell you that advertising doesn't work.
I'm not proud of this... but it was good.
