Advanced Marketing Education Courtesy of University of Twitter

I have written often about the importance of staying current in the marketing field.  New opportunities are launched everyday.  Old opportunities change and evolve quickly.  You can not afford to be left behind.

The follow-up to that point is:  It has never been easier to find the information you need to learn what you should.

Let's call it the University of Twitter!

It is simple.  Activate your Twitter account.  Research and follow smart marketing companies and thought leaders in the industry.  Pay attention to their tweets and be curious.  That's all you need to do.

Today, for example, FastCompany.com posted a terrific piece about branding, making your product distinctive and profitable.  It made its points so clearly and understandably that it's worth reading and keeping handy.  I've been in too many discussions where I was trying to convince a boss that a brand is more than merely a name, a logo and a slogan.  This would have helped.

Then from Mashable.com came a piece about the "9 Laws of Consumer Affinity in the Digital Age."  It shared some great thoughts about how to attract consumers and earn their loyalty.  For a change of pace I "attended" an archived webinar from 352 Media (a very impressive online company based here in Florida) about how to make your website and all your different social media channels work together.  Too often, you would have to admit, they don't.  Afterwards Hubspot.com gave me 10 guaranteed ways to attract more Google+ followers.

Back in college I would have called that a pretty heavy class load.

Today it took me an hour and a half because the webinar was 45 minutes long.  It can be done in much less time.  Just imagine all you could soak in if you did this two or three times a week!

It's not hard.  It only takes a little bit of time.  And if you are passionate about marketing, as I am, you will find it fascinating.

That's what I call the University of Twitter.  I am continuing my education everyday.  Are you?
